The Registered Nurse (RN) in Acute Care for Older Adults provides
patient-centered care by assessing, diagnosing, planning, and
implementing care strategies tailored to elderly patients.
Upholding the values of Yale New Haven Health System, the RN

ensure optimal health outcomes while practicing within ethical and
legal nursing standards. With a focus on gerontology, the RN plays
a critical role in delivering specialized care to older adults with
acute medical issues.

Responsibilities
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. All
newly hired registered nurses must have current BCLS certification
or must obtain within one month of hire.
EXPERIENCE
Registered Nurse is the foundational job description for all RNs.
All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical
advancement program.
LICENSURE
Licensed and a currently registered nurse in the State of
Connecticut. Clinical specialty certification highly
encouraged.

PHYSICAL DEMAND
Requires prolonged standing; walking; use of sight, hearing, and
touch. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Will be exposed to
physical, mental and emotional illness as well as end of life
conditions and death. Moderate stress and risk of injury from
patient care. Standing/walking for more than half of the day.
Frequently bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting and
lifting. Must be able to assist pushing/pulling/lifting patients
ranging from five (5) to three hundred (300) pounds.
Additional Information
V4W is a 22-bed specialty medicine unit that offers a wealth of
knowledge related to multiple disease processes specific to the
care of elderly patients aged 65 and older (focus on gerontology).
A focus on acute medical issues for this specific population
including a community approach to work in an environment where you
can make the difference in the lives of older adults by providing
geriatric nurse-driven interventions.
